MP Hon. Abdirsak Omar Ismail, currently serving as a Member of Puntland Parliament, boasts a rich and diverse career in both government and media. Prior to his parliamentary role, he held prominent positions including Deputy Minister of Information and State Minister of Finance within the Puntland Government.
Mr. Abdirsak also served as an advisor to the president and chaired the National Union of Somali Journalists (NUSOJ) for a significant period. With two decades of experience in the media industry, he has worked for various media houses across Somalia, Kenya, and Djibouti.
His expertise extends beyond national boundaries, as he has also been actively involved in diplomatic endeavors, particularly in fostering relations between Somalia and its diaspora community through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Additionally,
Abdirsak Omar has served as the Departmental Director of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, contributing to the governance and administration of the country. Furthermore, he held the position of Director of Community Affairs of Bosaso Local Government, demonstrating his commitment to community development at the local level.
Born in Mogadishu in 1975, Abdirsak Omar is a member of the esteemed Somali royal family, with his father being the notable traditional leader, King Omar Ismail Sanweyne. His academic background includes studies in Security and Journalism, further enhancing his capabilities in both governmental and media spheres.
